How to choose the right website platform?
When you’re ready to build a website, one of the first decisions you face is which platform to use. WordPress, Wix, Shopify, Webflow — the options are endless. And while they all promise to make your life easier, the reality is that not every platform fits every business.
Choosing the right platform is not about what’s trending. It is about what your business actually needs — now and in the future.
Start with your goals
Do you want a simple site to showcase your services? Or do you need a full webshop? Will you be updating the site yourself, or do you want someone else to manage it for you?
A business looking to sell products online may benefit from a WooCommerce webshop built on WordPress. If you just need a clean site to present your business and generate leads, a custom WordPress website with fast loading and good SEO structure is often the best move.
Why we recommend WordPress (most of the time)
We’ve worked with many platforms, but we usually recommend WordPress. Here’s why:
It’s flexible and works for almost any business
You fully own your website (unlike with some drag-and-drop builders)
It’s SEO-friendly and works well with tools like Yoast and Rank Math
It grows with you — start simple, add more as you scale
Most of our clients who come in asking for a website to be built end up with a WordPress site. Whether it is a local service business, a webshop, or a personal brand, it does the job.
What about Wix, Shopify, or Webflow?
These platforms all have their place. Shopify is great for e-commerce but less flexible for content-heavy businesses. Wix and Webflow are easy to use but can be limiting when it comes to SEO or customization.
If you’re a solo entrepreneur with limited tech skills and just need a basic online presence, something like Wix might be enough — but only short term. In the long run, a proper professional website built on a scalable platform saves you time and money.
Watch out for hidden costs
Some platforms seem cheap at first but end up costing more as your needs grow. Features like extra forms, SEO tools, or even connecting your own domain name may come with a monthly fee.
We often help businesses who started with a free website builder and later realized it could not support their goals. In the end, they paid twice — first for the “free” option, and then again to rebuild it properly.
Our advice
Start with your business goals. Think about how you want your website to grow with you. Then choose a platform that supports that growth.
